German start-up Tadus has made a significant breakthrough in the world of agriculture with the introduction of its new electric tractor. Unveiled at the prestigious Agritechnica event in Hannover, the tractor boasts an impressive lithium-ion battery and a maximum power output of 160 hp.
The Tadus electric tractor is equipped with a 130 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides a nominal power output of 110 hp, with peak performance reaching an impressive 160 hp. Weighing in at 5 tons, the tractor is powered by two electric motors that drive the axles, enabling it to reach a maximum speed of 40 km/h. In addition, it features a continuously variable power take-off (PTO), with an optional front PTO.
One of the standout features of the Tadus electric tractor is its versatility in terms of charging options. It can be charged through a 400 Volt three-phase connection or a fast charging station. The battery is expected to have enough capacity to mow for four hours or rake for six hours continuously. Furthermore, the tractor is designed with regenerative braking, which generates power that is returned to the battery. This innovative feature allows for quick battery swaps, ensuring that the tractor can complete a long workday with a fully charged battery.
Not only does the Tadus electric tractor offer impressive performance and charging capabilities, but it also has the potential to revolutionize the way farms utilize renewable energy. When not in use, the tractor’s battery can function as a buffer storage, allowing farmers to harness solar-generated power for activities such as milking, even when the sun is not shining. This innovative feature not only reduces reliance on traditional power sources but also helps to lower operating costs for farmers.
While the price for a Tadus electric tractor has yet to be determined, it is expected to be more expensive than a standard diesel tractor. However, Tadus argues that the electric tractor’s lower operating costs will result in a quicker payback period, estimated to be between two to four years. This cost-saving potential, coupled with its environmental benefits, makes the Tadus electric tractor an attractive option for forward-thinking farmers.
The introduction of the Tadus electric tractor at Agritechnica marks a significant milestone in the agricultural industry. With its impressive power output, versatile charging options, and potential for renewable energy integration, this innovative tractor has the potential to transform farming practices. As the world continues to prioritize sustainability and environmental stewardship, the Tadus electric tractor represents a step forward in the quest for greener and more efficient agricultural solutions.
