Tafe’s E30 Electric Tractor: 12-Hour Battery, 2024 Release!

Indian tractor manufacturer Tafe has unveiled two groundbreaking innovations at the Agritechnica trade fair in Hannover, Germany. The company displayed an electric tractor, set to be available for purchase in 2024, and a hydrogen-powered tractor, which is currently only a concept.

The star of the show was the electric tractor, named the E30. This compact tractor boasts 27 horsepower and is equipped with a lithium-ion battery and a two-speed transmission. This allows the tractor to travel at speeds of 0 to 10 km/h or, in a higher gear, 0 to 24 km/h. The electric motor ensures smooth operation, similar to a continuously variable transmission.

One of the standout features of the E30 is its two-pedal system. With one pedal driving the tractor forward and the other in reverse, it offers ease of use and maneuverability. Tafe claims that the tractor can handle heavy tasks, such as mowing, for up to 4 hours on a single battery charge. For lighter tasks, the battery can last for an impressive 10 to 12 hours. Additionally, the E30 can be charged rapidly using a fast charger, reaching almost full capacity in just one hour. With a regular charger, it takes approximately five hours to charge the battery fully.

Tafe plans to release the electric tractor to the market after the summer of 2024. While no price has been announced yet, the company’s entry into the electric tractor market signifies a significant shift towards sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices.

Alongside the E30, Tafe showcased a larger tractor powered by a 55 horsepower Simpson combustion engine that runs on hydrogen. This tractor is equipped with hydrogen tanks located behind the seat and under the platform floor. Although the hydrogen tractor is operational, Tafe has not yet made concrete plans to bring it to market. The main obstacle appears to be the lack of infrastructure for refueling hydrogen. However, the concept tractor demonstrates Tafe’s commitment to exploring alternative fuel sources and pushing the boundaries of agricultural technology.
