Shropshire’s Agri-Tech Hub Launches Free Start-Up Bootcamp!

Agri-EPI Centre’s Midlands Agri-Tech Innovation Hub in Newport, Shropshire, is rapidly becoming a hub for start-ups in the agricultural technology sector. With its state-of-the-art engineering and agri-tech incubation facilities, the hub provides the perfect environment for entrepreneurs to learn and grow their business.

In an exciting development, Harper Adams University and the Agri-EPI Centre have joined forces to launch a new initiative called Sustaining Shropshire. This project aims to offer free expert support to entrepreneurs, pre-trade, and start-up agri-tech and agri-food businesses in Shropshire. The initiative is funded by the Shropshire Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and will run until March 2025.

As part of Sustaining Shropshire, Agri-EPI Centre will deliver an eight-week structured start-up program at their Midlands Agri-Tech Hub. The program is designed to equip entrepreneurs with essential skills and knowledge to develop and refine their business plans. Topics covered include creating a robust business plan, defining the vision and mission, developing a unique selling point, understanding customers and competitors, and conducting market analysis.

The start-up support program will be delivered in three eight-week sessions, with the first one commencing on January 17, 2024. The program will be led by Agri-EPI Centre specialists and industry experts who possess a deep understanding of the local and national agri-food supply chain and farming landscape. The aim is to support a minimum of 30 individuals, subject to eligibility criteria, to complete the program and gain the knowledge and confidence to take the next step in running their own business.

Participants in the support program will also have access to the newly opened Innovation Barn. This dedicated hot desk and incubation space, located at the Midlands Agri-Tech Innovation Hub, provides a structured working environment for entrepreneurs and start-ups. The Innovation Barn offers meeting pods, internet access, meeting rooms, and networking opportunities, allowing participants to be part of Agri-EPI’s thriving innovation ecosystem.

Those enrolled in the start-up program will have access to the Innovation Barn for six months, starting from the program’s start date. After that, a nominal daily charge of £10 will apply. This opportunity to work in a collaborative and supportive environment is invaluable for entrepreneurs looking to accelerate innovation and growth.

Rose Judeh-Elwell, Agri-EPI Centre’s Business Development Director, expressed her delight in being involved in this project. She highlighted the importance of utilizing their agri-tech incubation facilities and the recently opened Innovation Barn. With an already thriving ecosystem, Agri-EPI Centre is eager to support both entrepreneurs and established companies on their journey towards innovation and growth.
