Shropshire’s Agri-Tech Hub Ignites Startup Innovation Wave!

Agri-EPI Centre’s Midlands Agri-Tech Innovation Hub in Newport, Shropshire, is becoming a hub of activity for start-ups in the agricultural technology sector. Equipped with state-of-the-art engineering and agri-tech incubation facilities, the hub provides the perfect environment for entrepreneurs to learn and grow their businesses.

In line with this vision, Harper Adams University and the Agri-EPI Centre have joined forces to launch a new initiative called Sustaining Shropshire. The project aims to offer free expert support to entrepreneurs, pre-trade, and start-up agri-tech and agri-food businesses in the Shropshire region. The initiative is funded by the Shropshire Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and will run until March 2025.

As part of Sustaining Shropshire, Agri-EPI Centre will be delivering an eight-week structured start-up program at their Midlands Agri-Tech Hub. This program is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the essential skills and knowledge needed to develop and refine their business plans. Topics covered include creating a robust business plan, defining the vision and mission, developing a unique selling point, understanding customers and competitors, and conducting market analysis and positioning.

The start-up support program will be delivered in three eight-week cycles, with the first one commencing on January 17, 2024. It will be led by a team of Agri-EPI Centre specialists and industry experts who have a deep understanding of the local and national agri-food supply chain and farming landscape. The program aims to support a minimum of 30 individuals who meet the eligibility criteria, providing them with the knowledge and confidence to take the next steps in running their own businesses.

Participants of the program will also have access to the newly opened Innovation Barn, a dedicated hot desk and incubation space located at the Midlands Agri-Tech Innovation Hub. This facility offers a structured working environment, complete with meeting pods, internet access, meeting rooms, and networking opportunities. Participants will have access to the Innovation Barn for six months, starting from the program’s start date, with a £10 daily charge thereafter.

Rose Judeh-Elwell, Agri-EPI Centre’s Business Development Director, expressed her excitement about the project and the opportunity to utilize their agri-tech incubation facilities and the Innovation Barn. She emphasized the Centre’s commitment to supporting both entrepreneurs and established companies in accelerating innovation and growth.

For those interested in the Innovation Barn or the start-up support program, further information and registration details can be found on the Agri-EPI Centre website.

The launch of Sustaining Shropshire and the support program at the Midlands Agri-Tech Innovation Hub is a significant development for the agricultural technology sector in the region. By providing free expert support and access to cutting-edge facilities, the initiative aims to nurture and cultivate the next generation of agri-tech entrepreneurs. With the program’s emphasis on developing essential skills and knowledge, participants will be well-equipped to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities in the evolving agri-food industry.
