In a significant move set to reshape the equipment dealership landscape, the Canadian Equipment Dealers Association (CEDA) Board of Directors has ratified a membership vote to merge with the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED). This strategic merger, expected to be finalized by November 1, aims to enhance the resources and support available to CEDA’s over 160 members.
“We are pleased with the outcome of the vote and look forward to the future with AED,” said Beverly J. Leavitt, President & CEO of CEDA. Leavitt emphasized that the decision to merge was made after careful evaluation of various factors, with AED emerging as the best option for providing continued benefits and resources to CEDA members. “AED’s history of providing first-rate dealer education and advocacy on behalf of the equipment industry played a big role in our decision,” she added.
Brian P. McGuire, President & CEO of AED, echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence that CEDA members will see increased value from the merger. “CEDA has a long history of delivering outstanding service to its members, and we look to build upon this strong foundation,” McGuire stated. “The industry will be stronger as we unite as one organization.”
Leavitt will transition to the role of vice president at AED, where she will oversee the integration of CEDA members and spearhead member recruitment efforts. CEDA Chairman Brian Osterndorff highlighted the importance of aligning with AED to continue providing the high level of support that dealers have come to expect. “CEDA has been a trusted resource for equipment dealers for over 78 years,” Osterndorff noted. “By joining forces with AED, we can ensure that our dealers have access to even stronger resources and support.”
John Shearer, AED Chairman, expressed enthusiasm for the merger, welcoming CEDA members into the AED family. “We are eager to support them in navigating the challenges of running successful businesses,” Shearer said.
CEDA members will now have access to AED’s extensive range of resources, including educational conferences, seminars, online courses, industry reports, and robust advocacy efforts in Ottawa. AED will also continue CEDA’s representation at the provincial level in Ontario.
This merger follows a similar move last year when the Far West Equipment Dealers Association (FWEDA) merged with AED, signaling a trend of consolidation within the equipment dealership sector aimed at bolstering support and resources for members.
As the merger progresses, the combined expertise and resources of CEDA and AED promise to offer enhanced value and support to equipment dealers, ensuring they are well-equipped to tackle the evolving challenges of the industry.
