FarmRobotix Revolutionizes DLG Feldtage with Cutting-Edge Robotics in Germany

The DLG Feldtage, a premier agricultural event held in Erwitte, Germany, has always been a beacon for innovation in farming. This year, the event took a significant leap forward by spotlighting robotics and precision farming solutions through its new FarmRobotix program. Held on the sprawling 290-hectare arable farm Gut Brockhof, the outdoor event drew an impressive 17,000 visitors from 45 countries, eager to witness the latest advancements in agricultural technology. They were greeted by 370 exhibitors from 18 countries, many of whom showcased groundbreaking innovations under the FarmRobotix umbrella.

Previously, the DLG Feldtage’s main foray into the realm of robotics was the ‘Field Robot Event,’ featuring miniature robots developed by student teams. This year, however, the Field Robot Event has been integrated into the broader FarmRobotix program, signaling a more comprehensive and practical approach to robotic farming solutions. The shift underscores a growing recognition of the role that autonomy and robotics will play in the future of both organic and conventional arable farming.

One of the standout demonstrations at the event was the Tipard 1800 modular tool carrier from the South German company Digital Workbench. This innovative vehicle boasts an adjustable track width and automatic level control, making it a versatile addition to any farm. Complementing the Tipard 1800 was a hoeing bar from Kratzer, another South German company, which has been specifically adapted for use with the tool carrier.

Another significant highlight was the Farming GT hoeing robot from Farming Revolution. Originating from Bosch and Amazone, the Farming GT is the final evolution of the Amazone BoniRob, first unveiled at Agritechnica in 2009. With 22 units already in operation across Germany and other European countries, the Farming GT is a testament to the progress and potential of robotic farming.

AgXeed also made a strong impression with their AgBot, equipped with wide tracks and an Amazone Cenius cultivator featuring AutoTill technology. Additionally, they showcased a four-wheeled AgBot paired with the Ecorobotix Ara spotsprayer, a popular choice in Germany and the Netherlands for its precision and efficiency.

The VTE field robot, a collaborative effort between Krone and Lemken under the Combined Powers initiative, was another focal point. Demonstrated pulling a Karat 10 cultivator, the VTE’s unique design includes a specially developed drawbar that allows it to be transported as a trailer behind a tractor, enhancing its versatility.

Artificial intelligence also played a starring role at the event. The InRowING from the Austrian company Farm-ING uses AI to identify and hoe around plants, capable of handling 3 to 11 rows in crops like sugar beets, lettuce, and cabbage. With a limited production run of 15 units sold in Central Europe, starting at €65,000 each, the InRowING is poised to make a significant impact on weed management.

Berlin-based startup Escarda Technologies introduced a novel approach to weed control using diode lasers. Developed at the request of the largest tomato grower in the United States, Escarda’s laser system can target five rows of tomato plants simultaneously and costs between €850,000 and €900,000. The company is currently working on CE certification for European use.

SAM Dimension, another German company, showcased its drone-based spot spraying system. Capable of mapping 60 to 80 hectares per hour with an RGB camera, this technology offers a cost-effective solution for large-scale weed control, charging between €10 to €35 per hectare.

The debut of the FarmRobotix program at DLG Feldtage marks a pivotal moment in the integration of robotics and precision farming. As these technologies continue to evolve, they promise to revolutionize agricultural practices, making farming more efficient, sustainable, and productive. The enthusiastic response from the global farming community at this year’s event underscores the growing appetite for innovative solutions that can meet the challenges of modern agriculture.
