Bangkok Bank is set to host the “Modern Agriculture Fair 2024” on December 20, showcasing a vibrant array of export-quality Thai agricultural products from 55 vendors. This initiative not only aims to promote innovative and healthy local produce but also reinforces the Bank’s commitment to being a “trusted partner and close friend of Thai farmers.” The fair, which will take place at the Bank’s head office on Silom Road, is strategically timed to coincide with the New Year festival, allowing attendees to purchase unique gifts that celebrate Thai agriculture.
The event will feature a diverse selection of products, including low-carbon coffee, processed macadamia nuts, fresh strawberries, organic eggs, and even insect protein powder. This year’s fair is expected to draw between 1,000 to 2,000 visitors, generating an estimated 3 to 4 million baht in sales. Beyond providing a marketplace, the fair serves as a networking platform for farmers, enabling them to connect with others across the agricultural supply chain. This interaction is crucial for fostering collaboration and resilience in the industry, particularly as farmers face increasing challenges related to climate change and market fluctuations.
In addition to the fair, Bangkok Bank will present the “Modern Agriculture 2023” awards, recognizing three exemplary Thai farmers for their innovative contributions to the agricultural sector. The awards will honor accomplishments in three categories: outstanding technology adoption, outstanding agricultural supply chain management, and outstanding young farmer. This year’s recipients include Mr. Tanachote Sririnchai, who has utilized technology to enhance his broiler chicken farm; Ms. Naruemon Taksa-udom, who has built a network of over 1,000 farmers in coffee production; and Mr. Sujit Chitthichanonte, who focuses on organic egg production with an emphasis on sustainability and animal welfare.
Bangkok Bank’s Executive Director, Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, highlighted the importance of innovation in agriculture, noting that the sector is now entering a third era characterized by technological advancement. The Bank has a long history of supporting Thai farmers, having initiated agricultural loans in 1962 and launching the Modern Agriculture project in 1999. Through this fair and accompanying seminars, the Bank aims to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools necessary to embrace smart farming practices, thereby enhancing productivity and sustainability.
The seminars will cover critical topics such as navigating new global agricultural regulations, sustainability in farming, and the integration of artificial intelligence in agricultural practices. This educational component is designed to empower farmers to adapt to the rapidly evolving agricultural landscape, ensuring they can thrive in a digital economy.
As Bangkok Bank continues to position itself as a leader in agricultural support, the Modern Agriculture Fair 2024 not only celebrates the achievements of Thai farmers but also underscores the vital role of technology in shaping the future of agriculture in Thailand. The event promises to be a significant milestone in the ongoing journey towards a more innovative and sustainable agricultural sector.
