Hainan’s Tropical Agri-Fair Draws Global Crowd, Showcases Tech Innovations

The 27th China (Hainan) International Trade Fair for Tropical Agricultural Products, held from December 5-8 at the Hainan Free Trade Port, marked another significant milestone in global agricultural collaboration. The event, which attracted over 60,000 attendees, showcased the latest advancements and innovative technologies from 2,200 enterprises representing more than 10 countries and regions. This year’s fair highlighted the growing importance of tropical agriculture in the global market and the increasing role of technology in driving agricultural advancements.

Delegations from nations such as Vietnam, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Cambodia, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Tanzania, and Singapore flocked to the event, eager to explore opportunities for agricultural collaboration. The fair’s extensive display, spanning approximately 80,000 square meters, featured a diverse range of exhibits, including fruits and vegetables, grains and oils, tea, coffee, livestock, aquatic products, agricultural materials, machinery, technology, cross-border e-commerce, and leisure agriculture.

Hainan, as the host, showcased a variety of standout products, including finger lime, black sapote, South American white shrimp, Hainan snapper, Wenchang chicken, natural selenium-rich eggs, coffee, and tea. Hainan Grand Agriculture Co., Ltd., a prominent exhibitor, introduced new tropical fruit varieties each year. Over the past decade, the company has introduced more than 680 unique tropical fruit varieties globally, successfully cultivating 380 varieties, including yellow dragon fruit and white sapote.

The event also saw the release of the “2024 Hainan Agricultural Brand Development Report,” which underscored Hainan’s significant achievements and promising future in agricultural branding. The report highlighted “Hainan Fresh Produce” as a central theme, reflecting the region’s commitment to high-quality agricultural products.

Technology played a pivotal role at the fair, with several tech companies, including SZ DJI Technology Co., Ltd., showcasing new products. DJI’s agricultural drones, for instance, have performed operations over 2.5 billion mu/time this year, covering 38% of China’s arable land. This technological integration underscores the increasing importance of smart agriculture in enhancing productivity and sustainability.

The fair, which has been successfully held for 26 years, serves as a vital platform for global agricultural exchanges and cooperation. It highlights Hainan’s high-efficiency tropical agriculture, facilitates economic and trade negotiations, and promotes investment opportunities among various countries. As the global demand for tropical agricultural products continues to rise, events like the China (Hainan) International Trade Fair for Tropical Agricultural Products will play a crucial role in shaping the future of agriculture.
