His latest study, published in the journal ‘Frontiers in Plant Science’, introduces a groundbreaking dataset and benchmark for detecting surface defects in pears, a critical step in ensuring fruit quality and consumer satisfaction.
Pears, with their delicate skin and susceptibility to blemishes, present a unique challenge in quality control. The study introduces PearSurfaceDefects, a dataset comprising 13,915 images and 66,189 bounding box annotations, captured using a custom-built image acquisition platform. This dataset is the foundation for a comprehensive benchmark of 27 state-of-the-art YOLO (You Only Look Once) object detectors, along with three advanced non-YOLO models.
