SFA Expands Ag Program with $85M Engineering Building

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KETK) — Stephen F. Austin State University is set to expand its agricultural offerings with the construction of a new Agricultural Engineering and Technology Building. The University of Texas System Board of Regents has approved an additional $5 million to the existing $80 million budget, bringing the total investment to $85 million. This funding will support the development of a state-of-the-art facility adjacent to the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.

The new building, spanning 16,990 square feet, will be equipped with integrated technology classrooms, advanced research laboratories, dedicated student resource areas, and faculty office spaces. This expansion is poised to significantly enhance the hands-on training opportunities for students pursuing careers in agriculture and related industries.

Dr. Neal Weaver, SFA president, highlighted the strategic importance of this development. “This approval is a critical step in advancing our commitment to providing high-quality, hands-on education for students in some of the most vital industries in Texas and beyond,” he said. The new facility will not only bolster SFA’s educational capabilities but also position the university as a leader in agricultural innovation.

The project is expected to be completed by 2027. Dr. Hans Williams, dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, emphasized the building’s role in preparing students for the modern agricultural landscape. “The addition of the Agricultural Engineering and Technology Building will equip students with the technical skills necessary to meet the challenges of the modern agricultural landscape, ensuring that SFA graduates are well-prepared to lead in this dynamic field,” he said.

The new building will feature cutting-edge technology and resources, providing students with a comprehensive learning environment. This investment underscores the university’s dedication to fostering innovation and excellence in agricultural education, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to address the evolving needs of the industry.
