In a significant development for the agricultural technology sector, AgZen, a pioneer in feedback-optimized agriculture, has successfully closed a $10 million Series A funding round. This investment, led by DCVC Bio and supported by Material Impact, which also led the previous $3.5 million seed round in 2022, underscores the growing interest and confidence in AgZen’s mission to revolutionize chemical application in agriculture. The funding will be instrumental in AgZen’s efforts to enhance efficiency and reduce costs across the direct-ag-inputs industry, addressing a critical challenge in modern farming.
AgZen’s innovative approach focuses on maximizing yield while minimizing input costs, a problem that has long plagued the agricultural sector. Currently, less than 10% of pesticides and 33% of critical fertilizers actively contribute to crop protection and yield. In the United States alone, farmers spend over $16 billion on pesticides and more than $30 billion on fertilizers annually, yet there is a lack of critical insight into where these inputs end up. AgZen’s technology aims to change this by ensuring that every droplet and granule of agrochemicals is applied with precision, thereby maximizing efficiency and effectiveness in the field.
Since its inception in 2022, AgZen has made significant strides with its first product, RealCoverage. This system optimizes droplet coverage on target, enabling 30-50% savings on pesticides in row crops while improving weed and disease control, ultimately leading to better yields. The technology leverages expertise in interfacial science, AI, and computer vision to achieve these results.
With the new funding, AgZen plans to expand the impact of RealCoverage across all chemical input applications, including foliar, residual pesticides, liquid, and granular fertilizers. The company also aims to push optimization beyond individual farms, defining new standards for efficiency and developing automations to achieve these standards with minimal effort from operators. This expansion is expected to bring about a paradigm shift in the ag-inputs industry, providing farmers with unprecedented insights into the effectiveness of their chemical applications.
The rapid adoption of AgZen’s technology is a testament to its potential. In just its second commercial year, growers have leased or bought RealCoverage systems for nearly a million acres of spraying in 2025. This widespread adoption highlights the urgent need for feedback optimization in agriculture and the industry’s readiness to embrace innovative solutions.
Vishnu Jayaprakash, Co-Founder and CEO of AgZen, emphasized the transformative potential of their technology. “Our expertise in interfacial science and the knowledge we are unlocking on every leaf and piece of soil, is allowing us to uniquely understand what works and what doesn’t throughout the whole agrochemical farm supply chain from spray technology to chemical actives,” he said. This understanding is crucial for optimizing the use of agrochemicals and ensuring that every dollar spent on inputs contributes to better yields and more sustainable farming practices.
Justin Kern, Partner at DCVC Bio, highlighted the unique value proposition of AgZen’s technology. “AgZen’s technology gives farmers the ability to actually see how their inputs are working: for the first time they have the ability to measure where their dollars are going in the field as they are applying those inputs,” he noted. This transparency is a game-changer for farmers, enabling them to make data-driven decisions that enhance efficiency and profitability.
Carmichael Roberts, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Material Impact, echoed the sentiment, stating, “Achieving a sustainable agricultural future begins with how resources are applied on the field. AgZen’s products are going to be game-changer for farmers and the entire agricultural supply chain. It’s the innovation the industry needs to ensure productive, efficient farming practices that will deliver long-term benefits for all stakeholders.”
As AgZen continues to innovate and expand its reach, the agricultural industry stands on the brink of a significant transformation. The company’s commitment to optimizing chemical application and reducing waste aligns with the broader goals of sustainability and efficiency in agriculture. With the support of DCVC Bio and Material Impact, AgZen is poised to lead this transformation, benefiting farmers, the environment, and the entire agricultural supply chain.
