Syngenta & Planet Partner for Precision Farming Revolution

In a significant move towards advancing precision agriculture, Syngenta and Planet have announced a multi-year partnership that promises to revolutionize how farmers access and utilize satellite imagery. This collaboration will integrate Planet’s high-resolution, daily satellite data into Syngenta’s Cropwise platform, offering farmers unprecedented insights and tools to enhance crop management.

Syngenta Cropwise users will now benefit from 3-meter resolution, daily capture satellite imagery from Planet’s Dove satellite constellation. This capability provides frequent visibility and advanced agronomic insights, even in regions prone to cloud cover. The integration will bolster Syngenta’s existing remote sensing products, including Variability Index, Productivity Zones, NemaDigital, and Anomaly Detection, adding a new dimension to their digital offerings.

Jeremy Groeteke, Global Head of IT & Digital Strategy at Syngenta, highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership. “This collaboration will significantly enhance Syngenta’s digital toolkit for our customers,” he said. “By leveraging Planet’s satellite data, we can offer more precise and actionable insights, helping farmers make informed decisions that improve yield and sustainability.”

Planet’s President and CFO, Ashley Johnson, echoed the excitement, stating, “Syngenta is at the forefront of agricultural innovation, providing essential support to farmers globally. Our collaboration will combine Syngenta’s agritech expertise with Planet’s unique satellite data capabilities, enabling new applications and research in precision agriculture.”

Feroz Sheikh, Chief Information and Digital Officer of Syngenta, emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making in modern farming. “Farmers today face a multitude of challenges, from pest management to climate variability,” he noted. “By expanding our collaboration with Planet, we can offer the most up-to-date, high-frequency satellite data, empowering farmers to make better-informed decisions. Additionally, we remain committed to protecting farmers’ data rights, ensuring they maintain control over their information.”

This partnership is poised to address some of the most pressing issues in agriculture, such as pest infestations and drought, by providing farmers with sophisticated AI and machine-learning algorithms. The integration of Planet’s data will enable Syngenta to develop new applications for broad area management and support novel research initiatives in precision agriculture.

Syngenta, a global leader in agricultural innovation, is focused on developing technologies and farming practices that empower farmers to meet the world’s growing food demands sustainably. With a presence in over 100 countries, Syngenta is dedicated to creating solutions that support farmers in growing healthier plants in healthier soil with higher yields.

Planet, a leading provider of global, daily satellite imagery, is driven by a mission to make change visible, accessible, and actionable. Founded by NASA scientists, Planet operates the largest Earth observation fleet of imaging satellites, providing mission-critical data and insights to a diverse range of industries, including agriculture, forestry, and intelligence.

The partnership between Syngenta and Planet represents a significant leap forward in digitally driven precision agriculture. By combining their respective strengths, the two companies aim to offer farmers powerful tools to improve crop yields, increase efficiency, and promote sustainable farming practices worldwide.
