News Network construction firm eX² Technology has been chosen to build 27 towers across Yuma County, a move that promises to enhance the region’s agricultural productivity and sustainability. This project, announced by Vivacity Infrastructure Group, is set to bring broadband access to all six of Yuma County’s irrigation districts, covering over 190,000 acres of cropland, 94% of which is irrigated.
The implications of this project are vast. Yuma County’s cropland contributes over $3 billion annually to the local economy, and the new infrastructure is expected to boost this figure significantly. By enabling smart irrigation systems, remote soil sensing, automation, and mechanization, the towers will not only conserve water but also increase crop yields and efficiency. This positions Yuma County as a leader in agricultural technology and connectivity, a status that is expected to attract further investment and innovation.
Funding for the project comes partly from a $6 million grant awarded to the county under the American Rescue Plan Act. This isn’t eX² Technology’s first foray into Arizona’s rural connectivity. Last year, the company broke ground on a 100-mile open access dark fiber network in Navajo County, one of the state’s most rural regions. This project, like the one in Yuma County, aims to expand connectivity and bridge the digital divide, demonstrating eX² Technology’s commitment to rural development.
