Vietnam’s Da Nang District Blooms with High-Tech Farming

In the heart of Vietnam, Da Nang’s Hoa Vang District is blossoming into a hub of agricultural innovation, thanks to a strategic focus on high-tech farming. The district has identified high-tech agriculture as a cornerstone for rural economic development and new-style rural construction, setting the stage for a green revolution.

The Farmers’ Association of Hoa Vang District has been instrumental in this transformation, tirelessly promoting awareness and encouraging local farmers to embrace organic and high-tech farming models. This push towards modernization is not just about keeping up with the times; it’s about empowering farmers to boost their strengths, restructure their crops and livestock, and ultimately, improve their livelihoods.

The district’s commitment to this cause is evident in its ambitious projects. In 2016, Hoa Vang District launched two significant initiatives aimed at integrating high technology into agricultural production. These projects, spanning from 2016 to 2025, have already borne fruit, with 30 high-tech agricultural production models now in operation. These models focus on introducing new, economically beneficial crop varieties that are well-suited to the district’s soil conditions.

The success of these initiatives can be largely attributed to the Hoa Vang District Farmers’ Association. By promoting awareness and education, the association has played a pivotal role in shifting farmers’ mindsets, encouraging them to move away from traditional methods and towards high-value agricultural economics. This shift has led to the success of several enterprises and cooperatives, such as Afarm High-tech Agriculture Joint Stock Company and Hoa Vang Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative.

Moreover, the district’s focus on production chain models linked to product consumption and the development of One Commune One Product (OCOP) product chains has created numerous job opportunities for local farmers. This evolution underscores the changing mindset of today’s farmers, who are increasingly open to adopting modern technologies in their production practices.

Take, for instance, Mr. Pham Van Hung, a farmer from Hoa Phong Commune. Encouraged and supported by the district Farmers’ Association, Mr. Hung transitioned from conventional farming to high-tech hanging flower growing. With financial support from the district, he built a greenhouse and installed a drip irrigation system. Today, his flower garden provides the market with thousands of flower baskets each month, earning him a substantial monthly profit.

The district’s support for mechanization and advanced technology extends to specialized and concentrated production areas for vegetables, flowers, and green-skinned grapefruit. Farmers are also supported in accessing capital sources and engaging in agricultural production models linked to tourism, generating jobs and ensuring stable incomes.

The story of Mr. Do Van Lai and his wife is a testament to this. Encouraged by various associations, the couple integrated agriculture with tourism in their area, achieving a stable monthly income by selling various agricultural products.

As Da Nang’s Hoa Vang District continues to embrace high-tech agriculture, it sets an inspiring example for other rural areas. The district’s journey towards modernization is not just about economic growth; it’s about empowering farmers, improving livelihoods, and building a sustainable future.
