Tripura Launches AI-Driven Agriculture Revolution with Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan in the Sepahijala district on Thursday, marking a significant step towards modernising agriculture in the state. This campaign, aligned with the national Viksit Sankalp Yatra, aims to bridge the gap between traditional farming practices and cutting-edge technology, with a strong emphasis on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into agricultural processes.

Addressing the gathering in Bishramganj, Saha highlighted the importance of adopting scientific methods in farming to boost productivity. He underscored that the initiative is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to revolutionise agriculture by leveraging scientific expertise. “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is part of the prime minister’s dream of the ‘Viksit Sankalp Yatra’. The PM wants farmers to practice agriculture by the opinions of scientists for more productivity,” Saha stated.

The chief minister illustrated the tangible benefits of technology adoption with real-world examples. Pineapple farmers in the region, for instance, are now receiving precise weather alerts, enabling them to take preemptive measures to safeguard their crops. Additionally, Saha pointed out the potential of drones in managing pest infections in rubber plantations, a development that could significantly benefit rubber planters.

Under the Digital Krishi Mission, farmers are gaining access to region-specific seeds, a move that is expected to enhance crop yields and quality. Saha noted that the government is actively working on multiple fronts to improve agricultural produce and, consequently, farmers’ livelihoods. The results of these efforts are already visible, with the average monthly income of Tripura farmers more than doubling from Rs 6,580 in 2015-16 to Rs 13,590 in 2025-26.

This economic uplift can be attributed to various government schemes, including the PM Kisan Yojana, under which Rs 848.64 crore has been disbursed, and substantial investments in paddy production amounting to Rs 446 crore. Tripura, home to approximately 4.72 lakh mostly marginal farmers, has become a hub for investment activity. The state attracted nearly half of the ₹30,000 crore worth of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed at the Rising Northeast Conclave held in New Delhi.

Modernisation of agricultural markets is another key focus area. The state has spent Rs 303 crore to upgrade 144 agricultural markets, ensuring that farmers can sell their produce efficiently and without hassle. This modernisation drive is expected to streamline the supply chain and reduce post-harvest losses, further boosting farmers’ incomes.

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath accompanied the chief minister at the launch event, reaffirming the government’s commitment to positioning agriculture as a growth engine for Tripura’s economy. The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan represents a concerted effort to transform the agricultural landscape of Tripura, promising a future where technology and tradition coexist to drive productivity and prosperity.
