UAE and Tunisia Forge Agri-Food Alliance at Historic Forum

On the sidelines of the International Food Show Africa (IFSA Africa), the UAE and Tunisia took a significant step towards strengthening their economic partnership in the food and agriculture sectors. The UAE-Tunisia Agriculture and Food Forum, organized by the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism in coordination with the UAE Embassy in Tunisia, brought together key officials and industry leaders from both nations.

The forum was graced by the presence of H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, and H.E. Dr. Iman Ahmed Al Salami, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia. Representatives from public and private entities, international organizations, and agri-tech startups, including Al Islami Foods, Iveco, and Emirates Bio Farm, also attended the event.

H.E. Bin Touq emphasized the vast potential for bilateral cooperation in food, agriculture, and food security sectors. He highlighted the UAE’s commitment to advancing economic cooperation with Tunisia, focusing on food manufacturing, modern agricultural technologies, and sustainable food production practices. The forum served as a platform to showcase the UAE’s achievements in the food sector and explore new partnerships.

The UAE is increasingly adopting an economic cluster model, with the food sector at its core. This strategy integrates agricultural production, food industries, and cutting-edge agri-tech into a cohesive system, enhancing competitiveness and empowering private sector enterprises.

H.E. Dr. Al Salami underscored the strength of bilateral ties and the pivotal role of the food industry in advancing the UAE’s food security strategy. She highlighted the forum’s importance in fostering UAE-Tunisian partnerships and the promising opportunities in manufacturing and biological products.

The UAE’s food sector has seen significant growth, with its contribution to non-oil GDP projected to rise to 11% in 2024. This expansion is driven by advancements in food manufacturing, agri-tech investments, and strengthened local production. The broader food system is expected to generate between USD 38.3 to USD 40 billion in 2024.

The forum featured dedicated sessions and B2B meetings, where companies from both markets showcased opportunities in smart agriculture, food processing, packaging technologies, and food logistics. Participants explored avenues to strengthen cooperation in agricultural research and food innovation, as well as investment potential in emerging technologies like alternative proteins, vertical farming, and smart supply chain solutions.

This event not only highlights the growing economic ties between the UAE and Tunisia but also underscores the increasing importance of food security and agri-tech in the region. As the UAE continues to invest heavily in these sectors, such partnerships will be crucial in driving innovation and ensuring sustainable food security for the future.

The International Food Show Africa, where the forum was held, is Africa’s premier annual food industry exhibition. It brings together all major stakeholders across the food value chain, from production and processing to packaging, distribution, and food innovation. The event serves as a vital platform for fostering regional cooperation and showcasing the latest advancements in the food sector.
