In a significant stride towards its ambitious economic goals, Telangana is set to leverage the upcoming Telangana Rising Global Summit – 2025 as a catalyst to propel the state towards its $3 trillion economy vision by 2047. Currently standing at approximately $200 billion, the state aims to achieve a 15-fold economic expansion over the next two decades, with agriculture playing a pivotal role in this transformative journey.
Agriculture, Marketing, Cooperation, Handlooms & Textiles Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao recently directed officials to prepare comprehensive audiovisual presentations that showcase Telangana’s agricultural potential, investment opportunities, and long-term development vision. The minister underscored the critical role of agriculture, which employs 66% of the rural population and contributes 17% to the Gross State Value Added (GSVA), in driving the state’s economic growth.
To elevate agriculture to global standards and boost exports, Minister Tummala outlined several key strategies. These include enhancing farmer incomes, increasing productivity, expanding value-added agriculture, and promoting exports. Notable initiatives highlighted involve IoT-based micro-irrigation, soil health management, agritech research, global seed leadership, horticulture mega clusters, oil palm expansion, farm tourism, advanced agri-logistics, and linking Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs) with food delivery companies.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to farmer welfare, citing schemes such as Rythu Bharosa, loan waivers, crop damage compensation, and Rythu Bima. He emphasized the need to build a technology-driven, data-based, and market-oriented agricultural model. “The labour of farmers is the source of Telangana’s development. Strengthening agriculture will strengthen the economy,” he declared, expressing confidence that the summit will mark a new chapter in agriculture, technology, and investment.
The implications of this strategic focus on agriculture are far-reaching. By leveraging technology and innovation, Telangana aims to transform its agricultural sector into a high-value, export-oriented industry. This shift is expected to create new job opportunities, attract foreign investment, and significantly boost the state’s economy. Moreover, the emphasis on farmer welfare and support schemes is likely to enhance the livelihoods of rural communities, fostering inclusive and sustainable growth.
As Telangana prepares for the Global Summit 2025, the state’s visionary approach to agriculture-driven economic growth sets a compelling example for other regions. The summit is poised to serve as a platform for showcasing Telangana’s potential, forging global partnerships, and accelerating its journey towards becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
