Italy’s Farming Mosaic: Digital Innovation Paves Path to Sustainable Growth

Drawing on data from the last Italian census of agriculture, the research groups farms into homogeneous clusters based on different types of nexuses. The results reveal a complex reality, with high levels of territorial heterogeneity in the adoption of digital and innovative solutions. This scattered geography of nexuses within the Italian farming system suggests that the path to smart rural development is not linear but rather a mosaic of diverse strategies and adaptations.
