Precision Agriculture Expert Marcelo Barbosa Highlights Tech Innovations for Modern Farming

These drones are equipped with multispectral sensors that track plant health, providing valuable data for farmers. “You can use that information to see what’s going on in the field,” Barbosa explained. “You’re going to see plant behaviors and possible anomalies across the field, which makes it easier for the farmers to identify potential problems.” This technology is versatile and can be applied to all crops. Additionally, there are user-friendly software platforms available that help farmers track and analyze the data collected by these drones. Barbosa emphasized that these platforms are designed to be accessible, requiring only basic knowledge to upload images and obtain results.

Beyond drones, Barbosa also explored the potential of robots in agriculture, particularly in spraying operations. He highlighted the development of autonomous spray robots equipped with cameras and sensors that can identify crops and weeds needing treatment. These robots can operate with high precision, even at night. Barbosa mentioned the development of a spraying robotic system that supports drone tasks and can be controlled via a mobile app. By inputting parameters such as gallons per acre and chemical usage, the system automatically calculates, measures, and delivers the necessary chemicals to the drone’s tank. For tree crops, these robots can work in tandem with drones, with drones covering the tops of trees and robots operating underneath the canopy.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is another critical aspect of modern farming. Barbosa noted that AI plays a pivotal role in transforming collected data into actionable insights. This technology can enhance farm management by improving accuracy, reducing labor, and aiding in decision-making processes. While the concept may seem complex, Barbosa encouraged farmers to explore these methods to reap their benefits.
