The review, which scrutinized ten relevant articles published between 2013 and 2023, reveals a complex network of immune cell responses influenced by the peel’s properties. “The mangosteen peel is not just waste; it’s a rich source of antioxidants and other bioactive compounds that can enhance immune responses and improve overall health status,” Pratiwi explains.

The findings are compelling, with the peel demonstrating anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antioxidant activities. However, the specific compounds responsible for these immunomodulatory effects remain largely unidentified, and the underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. This gap in knowledge presents an opportunity for further research and commercial exploration.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this research is its potential impact on the energy sector.
