Surabaya Study Unveils Key Consumer Preferences for Premixed Rice

In the bustling city of Surabaya, a new study is shedding light on what matters most to consumers when it comes to choosing MP-ASI premixed rice products. Led by Mochamad Harits Pradana Misbach from Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur, the research delves into the intricate web of consumer preferences, offering valuable insights for producers and the broader agritech industry.

The study, published in the Jurnal Pangan dan Agroindustri (Journal of Food and Agroindustry), employed a survey method to gather data from 100 respondents, carefully selected using the Slovin formula and a two-stage cluster sampling technique. The research focused on six key attributes: cooking time, type of material, type of packaging, addition of nutrients, flavor variant, and place of purchase.

The findings reveal a clear preference among consumers for MP-ASI premixed rice products made from white rice, with the addition of fat nutrients. “Consumers are increasingly health-conscious and are looking for products that not only cater to their convenience but also provide nutritional benefits,” Misbach explains. The study also highlights a strong preference for products packaged in plastic bottles, with a cooking time of less than 20 minutes, and a fish meat flavor variant. Interestingly, online sales channels emerged as the preferred place of purchase.

These insights could significantly impact the agritech industry, particularly in the development and marketing of MP-ASI premixed rice products. Producers can leverage this information to tailor their products to meet consumer demands, potentially boosting sales and market share. “Understanding consumer preferences is crucial for any business,” Misbach notes. “It allows companies to make informed decisions about product development, marketing strategies, and distribution channels.”

The study also underscores the importance of convenience and health benefits in consumer decision-making. As the agritech industry continues to evolve, these factors are likely to play an increasingly significant role in shaping product offerings and market trends.

The research conducted by Misbach and his team not only provides a snapshot of current consumer preferences but also offers a glimpse into the future of the agritech industry. By understanding what drives consumer choices, producers can innovate and adapt, ensuring they stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly changing market. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, such insights will be invaluable in shaping the products and services of tomorrow.

In the dynamic world of agritech, staying informed and responsive to consumer needs is key. This study serves as a reminder of the power of data-driven decision-making and the importance of understanding the nuances of consumer behavior. As the industry continues to innovate and expand, the insights gleaned from this research will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping its future.
